Door is the first painting in my Time Frames series, and it captures the tension I often feel between safety and risk, comfort and challenge. In this piece, I depict a window within a window—a view from the inside looking out—symbolizing my own experience of feeling confined and limited as I strive to grow as an artist.

The small window on the door represents the frustration I’ve encountered in trying to improve my craft, but feeling restricted by my current skill levels, lack of time, and limited resources. It’s a visual metaphor for the struggle of seeing the possibilities that lie beyond, yet feeling unable to fully reach them.

I chose warm, intimate colors to convey the comfort and safety of staying indoors, contrasting them with the cold, distant tones of the outside world. This contrast reflects the allure of the familiar versus the uncertainty and risk that lie beyond. Door encapsulates my internal conflict—my longing for growth and exploration, tempered by the pull of security and the known.

Through Door, I invite you to reflect on those moments in your own life when the comfort of staying within your limits competes with the urge to step out and take risks. It’s a personal reflection on the delicate balance between seeking safety and finding the courage to face the unknown.
