Summer Memory is a delicate watercolor that captures the bittersweet experience of connection across distances. The painting was created after a long and thoughtful process, sparked by a FaceTime call with a loved one who was vacationing in Italy. Despite the physical distance and the poor connection that resulted in a pixelated video, the artist was determined to grasp and share in the experience.

Using screenshots of the distorted images as inspiration, the artist transformed the fleeting, imperfect moments into a layered and complex watercolor. Summer Memory explores the intricacies of human connection, focusing on the deep longing to understand and be part of a loved one’s experience, even when it is beyond reach.

The painting is infused with a sense of positivity, celebrating the attempt to bridge the gap between two worlds. Yet, it also carries a touch of nostalgia, reflecting the artist’s awareness that this memory is an interpretation—one shaped by distance and digital distortion, and not fully their own. Through soft washes of color and intricate details, Summer Memory becomes a tender tribute to the complexities of relationships, and the desire to connect, even when separated by time and space.
